TRC held a seminar in conjunction with the Media Institute of Southern Africa

Impact (quantitative & qualitative): The celebrations of the World Press Freedom Day brought to the attention of the local media their innate right to freedom of expression of opinion as enshrined in the country's constitution. The seminar delved into enjoyment of the right to freedom of expression, whose enjoyment by Basotho and the media is felt to be at its lowest ebb. It exposed the negative perceptions of media by government, civil society, private sector and other sectors of society, a practice that hindered media from getting information from these sectors. The seminar also looked into the caliber of journalists to fully exercise this right by investigating stories to expose wrongdoing within society. A theme for this year's press freedom day is : Media and Dialogue, Mutual Understanding and Reconciliation. It was crafted in line with the media's role in providing platforms for dialogue, dialogue that will lead to understanding among members of society. 18 journalists attended the seminar (quantitative), and other people who were informed, educated and persuaded by a panel of two people to change their attitudes. There is no tool that has bee established yet that would gauge the behavioral and attitudinal impact of the seminars on target audiences.
