Home| Library | Democracy & Human Rights | Info & Comm | Lesotho Democracy Programme | Water TRC participated in a panel at the Harvest FM on Press Freedom Day Impact (quantitative & qualitative): The radio programme discussed how media houses and their practitioners were reluctant to avail themselves of such opportunities to freely report on national issues, giving out several perspectives to shape public opinion. It looked into how the lack of investigative skills hindered journalists from exploring stories that could shape public opinion of national issues. Participation in that radio panel gave TRC a marketing mileage since people understood the centre better in terms of what it stands for in media circles. TRC promotes and protects the respect for and enjoyment of the right to freedom of expression of opinion. As a human rights organization, it advocates for the enjoyment of all freedoms and liberties as enshrined in the Constitution of the Country. This right is guaranteed under Section 14 (c) of the Constitution. In spite of the limitations it has, but it has to be promoted. This was made known to the public. Many people called (quantitative), asking question and making comments leveled at TRC's role in the protection of the right to freedom of expression of opinion. As to how the programme managed to change the attitudes and perceptions of audiences on TRC's position on the issue in question, that tool has not yet been developed. |
