MCST MANAGEMENT IN STRATEGIC PLANNING
The top brass of the Ministry of Communications Science and Technology (MCST) is currently on a three-day strategic planning workshop at Mohale Lodge.
Officially opening the workshop, which commenced today (Monday) the Minister Mr Mothetjoa Metsing reminded all that a strategic plan is a mirror of the future of the ministry and as thus should be produced diligently in order for it to be adopted as a working document guiding all activities of the ministry.
He said although the Ministry has different departments they all have to work together towards a common goal bearing in mind the core business of the ministry which is the provision of accurate, reliable and rich information which is in the public interest.
“Don't dwell on activities that will not impact on the society, either through education, informing or entertaining but rather refocus your efforts in ensuring that the public benefits from the ministry,” the Minister stressed.
In the same token, the Principal Secretary Mr Ts'eliso ‘Mokela said a strategic plan is a way of introspection that clearly states where the ministry is coming from and where it is going.
He mentioned that this should be inline with some of the policies the ministry has adopted namely, the media policy which is still to be approved by cabinet, the Communications policy which was adopted last year and the 2006-2009 strategic plan.
The Principal Secretary urged participants to give this workshop all the attention and seriousness it deserves.
Participants at this workshop have stressed the importance of professionalism as the basis on which the ministry should develop. The consensus was that without professionalism content produced by the ministry is characterised as announcements without the real essence of news.
During the workshop, participants will present review the progress they have made since the 2006 – 2009 strategic plan and also ponder on the way forward. Departments represented are: Broadcasting (Television and Radio), Information, LENA, Science and Technology, ICT, ATS and Administration.
