JOURNALISTS ATTEND POVERTY REPORTING TRAINING

At least 20 local journalists will attend a three-day Poverty Reporting Workshop to be held at Likileng Lodge from Wednesday next week.

The workshop has been organised by the Media Institute of Southern Africa(MISA) and Action Aid International.

MISA National Director, Mr. Tsebo Mats'asa, said the objective of the workshop is to strengthen participants' skills on reporting about poverty, and ways to raise public awareness on how it could be eradicated.

Mr. Mats'asa, said the workshop will also serve to make journalists report on different activities geared at poverty alleviation by different sectors in government and non-governmental organisations at grass roots level.

He said, "We expect the media to report poverty issues in a way that will bring change to people affected," adding that they also expect news stories that will make people aware of poverty, and what could be done to overcome the challenge.

The workshop will also focus on conceptualising sustainable development, and understanding power, politics and public policy.

Mr. Matsa'sa said, they will also discuss Media and policy engagement in poverty eradication domain.
