COMMONWEALTH SUMMIT IN DUBAI
The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Mr Pakalitha Mosisili said countries of the south who are also members of the Commonwealth need to seriously change their mindsets and increase cooperation to drive trade and investment flows to greater heights.
The Prime Minister said this in his key note address at the official opening of the commonwealth arab-america-asia-africa business summit for this year, which is held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The summit is aimed at examining south to south cooperation for greater economic growth with a deeper look into the role of new economic actors in emerging economies, in driving forward global economic development and wealth creation.
The Prime Minister said this is a time of rapid global changes as the world economic power declines due to challenges arising from the persisting global financial crisis.
He said it is imperative for countries of the south to asset themselves as important economic drivers and as key players in world trading system adding that the developing world has what it takes to eradicate poverty and create wealth.
The Prime Minister said collectively countries have raw materials, land, energy and human resources to create wealth, although he said there is need for Africa to upgrade its infrastructure, energy and transport and also promote public-private partnerships.
He also called for the Middle East to aide SADC through investing in energy projects, as electricity shortage seems to be one of the major challenges facing the region.
