AU-CSO Pre-Summit Meeting in Lybia, 20-22 June 2009.

TRC was represented in the African Union Pre-Summit for civil society organizations held in Tripoli , Lybia on 20-22 June 2009. The main objective of the Pre-Summit was to bring together a cross section of representatives of civil society organizations including designated members of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union (ECOSOCC) to discuss pertinent issues relating to agricultural activities in the continent and matters regarding food security in line with the Declaration made by Heads of States and Governments in the previous year.

The CSO pre-summit meeting examined the relevance of the upcoming AU Summit to be held in Lybian territory whose theme was: “Investing in Agriculture for Economic Growth and Food Security”.

The CSO Pre-Summit then made recommendations to the AU Summit where a representative of the CSO delivered a Declaration in accordance with the tradition established at the Ordinary Session of the Assembly held in the previous year in El Shekh , Egypt in July 2008.
