The central message conveyed to the people was that the people must know about the Parliament’s activities and its programmes such that the communities are on the same understanding of the national affairs. The issue of taking the Parliament to the people and the people to the Parliament by way of discussing the important Bills before they are enacted into laws was seen by many as a positive step towards the advancement of the democratic principle of public participation on national affairs. The GGO further shared information regarding the Parliamentary Reform processes including the work of the different Portfolio committees. In the Mekaling constituency, the GGO addressed the 32th meeting of the local council of Khoelenya F04. The Council was enthusiastic about the LDP and pledged to fully participate in the LDP activities. Furthermore, the chiefs under the Principal Chief of Phamong were addressed on the same subject. Now that the introductory meetings with the local leadership have taken place, the GGO is to hold mass community gatherings to stimulate discussions on Parliament’s activities and again facilitate the formation of lobby groups in the villages. On top of that, the GGO is planning to bring the MPs and the PR Candidates to the people to feedback on the national current issues concerning the Parliament. The main functions of the lobby groups would be to engage the MPs and PR Candidates with the communities and facilitate an ongoing dialogue in the constituencies in connection with the Parliament’s business.
