In order to empower communities and schools with conflict resolution skills, the Democracy and Human Rights Programme will have consultative meetings with high schools which are to participate on conflict resolution activities thorough out the country. These activities are aimed at addressing issues of conflict which seem to be emerging in most schools in Lesotho. The programme will empower both teachers and students on how to handle and manage the conflict. The activity will be used to identify the kinds of conflict experienced by students and therefore formulate relevant solutions. Schools with Development studies as one of their courses are the main targets. They will be chosen the ten districts of Lesotho.
TRC reaches students by equipping and training teachers to teach on democracy, human rights, conflict management, and the Constitution. To do this, we develop teaching material for classrooms. TRC has written and published a simplified version of the Lesotho Constitution in English and Sesotho, together with an accompanying 180-page Teaching Manual. TRC has also produced a textbook for Conflict Studies, Conflict Studies for Lesotho , which forms part of the Development Studies curriculum in Lesotho high schools. In addition to making these resources available to teachers, TRC conducts training workshops for teachers. Development Studies and History teachers from around the country are trained to deepen their understanding of the subjects they teach and to relate these to the development of Lesotho. The organization also works with schools that do not offer those two subjects but want to engage in conflict management.
