The Best of Work for Justice 1983-2004

Articles from the newsletter of the TRC

The articles contained in this anthology reflect the true meaning of Pope Paul VI’s plea to the United Nations in 1965, “if you want peace, work for justice”. So aptly named, the newsletter, Work for Justice started in 1983 and has traced a people’s journey in their quest for peace in an age of oppression and hostility both in Lesotho and southern Africa. The stories and accounts go beyond paradigms and schools of thought to tell simple day to day living experiences without sacrificing the historical and religious content.

The founders of the Transformation Resource Centre as well as all those who worked for it or sympathized with its mission of social justice and common humanity have received strength and inspiration from Work for Justice. The newsletter has been published quarterly each year since the first issue, though interrupted by the occasional shortage of funds.

The issues have been grouped into four broad themes, namely, the church, politics, economics and social life. This work has been completed by Dr. John Gay with the help of his wife Judy as well as friends and colleagues Gann Hermann and Carol Urner, all of whom have contributed to Work for Justice during their many years living and working in Lesotho.
